大量の資料がようやく収まる所に収まったと思いきや、今度はメールの嵐である。
パキスタン・アフガニスタンで名刺交換した方達から、「無事着いたか？」メールの催促である。こういうメールは思われていることの嬉しさで一杯になる。
と云うことで、今日はメールの御礼状書きで一日終了。計１０人にもなった。
ウィスキーをチビリとやりながら、今回のShort tripについて思いをめぐらせる。
日程はハードであった。飛行機の都合と、いつ飛ぶか判らない時刻の調整が難しかった。
秘書の佐藤が、それこそ目をつり上げて頑張った予定表である。無事、スケジュールはこなせた。
以下は、最終スケジュールである。前にも書いたが、メール交信不可で、コンタクトが取れなかったり、現地調査以降のスケジュール、うまく行ったもんだ。秘書歴８年はダテではない。おかげ様で、出発前の社業のシュミレーションはうまく行った。

General

DDR Main Phase
A decision was taken by the government and the international community to complete 40% disarmament prior to the elections. The ‘main phase’ activities until the start of elections will be subdivided into 3 sub phases:

• Main Phase 1 (end March- 30 June 2004): Up to 34,000 personnel will enter DDR activities. 38 units will be decommissioned and 39 units will be downsized. Only those entering the programme from decommissioned units will be eligible for immediate reintegration activities;
• Main Phase 2 (July-September 2004): Approximately 20,000 remaining personnel from the downsized units during Main Phase 1 will enter the programme. All, including those who were not processed in Main Phase 1 will start reintegration activities prior to the elections;
• Main Phase 3 (September 2004-June 2005): Remaining AMF units will be decommissioned with personnel demobilized and reintegrated.

Japanese Rotary Club Members Visit Pol-i-Charki
Members of the Japanese Embassy and a group of Japanese Rotary Club Members from Aomori Prefecture visited Pol-i-Charki. They received a briefing of the weapons stored at the site and observed the destruction of a weapon. The members are hoping to use the scrap metal from the unserviceable weapons that have been destroyed to erect a peace monument in Hirosaki City of Aomori.

ANBP Activities in the Regions
Herat
Following the incident on 21 March, no significant activities have taken place.

Jalalabad
ANBP held a meeting with the Provincial Reconstruction Team and all commanders under 1 Corps where positive support to the DDR process was received. The Operational Group has arrived to support DDR activities and members of the Regional Verification Committee have been identified to be interviewed next week. The Heavy Weapons Survey Team started its activities on 27 March and has completed the cataloguing of all heavy weapons in Jalalabad and Nangarhar. Surveying activities are ongoing in the other locations.

Pilot Project No. 6 (Bamiyan)
Activities of the Regional Verification Committee are ongoing for 34th & 35th Divisions of 9 Corps. The Heavy Weapons Survey Team has arrived in the region and is expected to begin surveying activities on 5 April. ANBP has identified a private property with a building to

過日、カブールではお世話になりました。
同郷のよしみで、気やすく話させていただきました。
ありがとうございました。
　
４月２日成田帰国、４月３日弘前に到着しました。
体調はすこぶる良く、資料の整理やら、帰国後荷物の整理に追われて居ります。
これからの作業は、日本薬剤師会向けの調査報告書、新聞、雑誌等の原稿依頼、国際ロータリークラブ（米国・日本双方）原稿、国際ロータリークラブ世界大会準備原稿等々作成です。
何しろ、作文、英文が苦手な小生にとっては、難行苦行が待ち受けて居ります。

今朝、弘前公園を散歩してまいりました。まだ雪化粧がかなり残っている岩木山がくっきり姿を現し、桜のつぼみも膨らみ、２週間もすれば開花とか・・・。
そろそろ田植えも近く、農作業が早まりそうです。
中東の地ゆえ、食物に御注意され、御健康に留意なされ、更なる御活躍を御祈念申し上げます。
